Market Gardening: Fruit Production Online Course Overview

This course is part of the Market Gardening School.  It will introduce you to the basic concepts needed to become a successful fruit farmer.  It begins with an introduction to fruit crops, including families of fruit, fruit crop inputs, crop establishment, pest management, fertility and water, and harvest. It addresses production guidelines for different types of fruit crops that can be produced in Oklahoma.  Each lesson will focus on not only the production guidelines but also on the historical and nutritive attributes of crop groups.

Both novice and experienced market gardeners are welcome to enroll.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize different groups of fruit crops.
  • List the key attributes of the members of a crop group.
  • Describe methods of establishing different fruit crops.
  • Summarize best practices for managing soil fertility for groups of crops.
  • Explain when and how to irrigate fruit crops.
  • Identify different types of pests that may attack different fruit crops.

Course Outline

You can work on this course any time, 24/7 for up to 60 days. You will watch videos, engage in learning activities and take quizzes. The course is divided into four modules, which can be completed at your own pace. Each module should take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.

To complete the course, you must access all pages and earn at least 80% on all assessments. A certificate will be available to download after the course is completed.
